County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 7:12 p.m., Ryan W. VanHaften, 22, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a pair of local warrants.

• At 3:11 p.m. Kevin L. Cordes, 54, Poland, was booked in on a Johnson County warrant.

• At 2:59 p.m. Jordan L. Jones, 20, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

• At 12:29 a.m. Laura K. Mashburn, 36, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine.

Tuesday

• At 10:37 p.m. Kevin J. Watkins, 32, Cloverdale, was booked in for domestic battery, strangulation and disorderly conduct.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s Deputy Nate Trissel responded to the following crash early Wednesday morning.

• At 5:30 a.m., Jeremy D. Schultz, 28, Coatesville, was stopped on Colonial Drive at the T intersection with Heritage Drive in a 2017 Ford F-450 wrecker registered to Dustin Martin, Coatesville.

Ricky Jackson, 59, Coatesville, appeared to have attempted to pass Schultz on the left. However, he went around the right side of his truck hit the left front of the wrecker.

Trissel cited improper lane usage by Jackson as the primary cause of the incident.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Trissel estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five recent dispatches:

• At 6:53 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1900 Shadowlawn Ave. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:59 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 7:20 p.m.

• At 5:17 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1672 W. CR 100 North. Units arrived on the scene at 5:22 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 5:55 p.m.

• At 5:02 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 1122 Avenue B for a smoke scare. Firefighters arrived at 5:10 and determined this was caused by residue on a dishwasher heating element. GFD went back into service at 5:32 p.m.

• At 8:16 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:19 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:25 p.m.

• At 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a small dumpster fire at 11 W. Franklin St. Firefighters arrived shortly and extinguished the fire, as well as checked for smoke damage on the home. The cause was undetermined. GFD went back into service at 7:43 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 16 medical assists and had four disregards, as well as no incident being found on one run.
