Library Board approves three resolutions

Monday, December 21, 2020

With the year coming to a close and the Putnam County Public Library moving forward and stable financially, the PCPL Board of Trustees approved three new resolutions during its regular meeting last week.

The first was for approving a non-resident fee of $30 per person for 2021. The second was to renew the contract of Treasurer Lisa Barker through January 2022.

The third resolution, which related to sick leave for employees through Jan. 31, 2021, was more complicated. This is because of uncertainty in Washington with extending the Families First Coronavirus Response (FFCR) Act.

Director Matt McClelland explained that the resolution was meant to cover employees into the next month, should Congress eventually vote on and pass the extension. The act is set to expire on Dec. 31.

In other business:

• The board approved a recommendation from the PCPL Finance Committee to leave the library’s remaining operating funds in the cash balance. This was as opposed to moving it to Rainy Day.

McClelland said this was to protect against potential budget cuts, and to better shore up the cash balance when thinking long term with financial uncertainties into 2022.

• McClelland announced that Director of Programs Barbara Timm would be retiring.

• McClelland spoke as to how public seating at the library has been removed, while still allowing access to the stacks. He advocated that this was done out of more caution. The move was made on Dec. 9.

Board members Kristin McClellan, Tona Gardner and Jamie Nees did not attend the meeting, which was held via Google Meet.

The next regular meeting of the Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. Those interested should contact PCPL for meeting information.
