WASHINGTON, D.C. – Indiana Congressman Jim Baird (4th District-Greencastle) voted in support of COVID-19 relief legislation, providing targeted relief to Hoosiers, farmers, small businesses, and those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This legislation provides targeted relief to those still in need,” Congressman Baird said. “Small businesses have been devastated through no fault of their own. New PPP funds will keep employees on their payroll and help keep businesses open. Families will receive direct cash payments to help cover bills.”

In addition to funding the federal government, H.R. 133 – which passed the House by overwhelming majority – included $900 billion in pandemic relief and stimulus. However, nearly two thirds of that cost were covered by funds recaptured from unspent funds allocated by the CARES Act passed into law earlier this year; with only $325 billion in new spending.

“Thanks to Operation Warp Speed a safe and effective vaccine was approved in record time, yet there still remains a lot of work that needs to be done. Today, we designated funds to purchase more vaccine doses and keep distribution on track across the country. I have faith that we will triumph and this COVID relief legislation will play a part in our success,” Congressman Baird continued.

Major provisions of H.R. 133 for COVID-19 relief include:

-- Direct payments of $600 for adult taxpayers and $600 per each dependent child.

-- $300/week in expanded unemployment benefits extended for 10 weeks.

-- $325 billion aid to small businesses.

-- Provides more than $280 billion to expand and allow a second draw on the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

-- An additional $26 billion to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure our food supply is secure.

-- $13 billion to increase benefits for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants for six months.

-- $13 billion to farmers impacted by the pandemic.

-- $82 billion in assistance for schools.

-- Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Fund will receive $55 billion.

-- The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund will receive $23 billion

-- $20 billion for the purchase of vaccines to ensure that vaccines are available to at no charge for anyone who needs it

Pandemic relief funding was included in an end-of-the year omnibus spending package that funds the government through the end of the fiscal year and other provisions.

    What a filthy politician!!

If you count Jim Baird as a friend or a decent person, you have seriously bent decency receptors...

Anyone that voted for this absolute disgusting bill should be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail!

There is absolutely NO WAY Jim Baird or his staff read this bill...

You might as well vote for Democrats.

JIM BAIRD IS AN ENEMY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND HAS JUST PROVEN IT.

Jim Baird - Instead of telling us all the supposedly wonderful things you are spending OUR money on (despite the unconstitutionality of most of it), how about you defend this:

“This bill contains $85.5 million for assistance to Cambodia; $134 million to Burma; $1.3 billion for Egypt and Egyptian military, which will go out and buy almost exclusively Russian military equipment; $25 million for democracy and gender programs in Pakistan; $505 million to Beliza, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama; $40 million for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., which is not even open for business; $1 billion for the Smithsonian and an additional $154 million for the National Gallery of Art; ... $7 million for reef fish management; $25 million to combat Asian carpe; $2.5 million to count the number of amberjack fish in the Gulf of Mexico, a provision to promote the breeding of fish in federal hatcheries; $3 million in poultry production technology; $2 million to study the impact of downed trees; $566 million for construction projects at the FBI.”

DPR - They need to do a clean bill with just the stimulus checks, PPP, unemployment extension, small business aid, etc...But they will never do that as this is the way they get all the BS wasted spending slid in.

This is the only way BOTH sides can get the other side to agree to their BS.

  • Very disappointed in Jim Baird supporting this “stimulus” bill!!

It is nothing but a bill of foreign aid of which will probably end up back in the politicians’ pockets!!

  • Jim Baird voted to give our hard-earned tax dollars, 1.3 billion dollars, to Egypt to help purchase 24 SU-35 fighters, amongst other Russian military equipment. Didn't he learn anything from his life's experiences? He obviously adheres to the Pelosi school of socialist spending.

“We have to pass the bill,” she said, “so that you can find out what is in it."

It's a betrayal, Jim, an absolute betrayal.

  • Those of you who want “centrists” who can get both sides to agree... this is what you get when that happens.

  • These aren't centrists coming together!
