Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 7:46 a.m. on Thursday, Logan A. York, 18, Greencastle, was eastbound on West Walnut Street Road in a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette.

As York approached a sharp curve at the intersection with County Road 400 West, he lost control, skidding around the corner and hitting the guardrail on the south side of the road.

After hitting the guardrail, the vehicle darted back north, crossing the westbound lane and hitting a Parke County REMC utility pole. The impact knocked the pole over and into some trees.

Deputy Brian Helmer reported the pole was being held up by trees, but the power lines were down and appeared to be hot. The houses in the area still had power following the crash.

The car came to rest in a flower bed.

York told Helmer he was going too fast around the corner, saying he was traveling at 55 mph.

The car was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.
