Russellville council passes new salary ordinance

RUSSELLVILLE -- Wrapping up some loose ends before the end of the year, the Russellville Town Council read and passed a new salary and wage ordinance during its meeting Tuesday.

The rundown of the salaries set out for 2021 are as follows according to Ordinance 2020-6:

• Council Members: $1,690, split equally between the General Fund and the Water Utility Fund;

• Council President: $2,000, split equally between the General Fund and the Water Utility Fund;

• Clerk-Treasurer: $24,000, split equally between the General Fund and the Water Utility Fund;

• Town Marshal: $12,000 paid from the General Fund, along with a $400 uniform allowance paid out equally in January and July 2021;

• Water Utility Employees: $18 per hour worked, with hours not to exceed 265 during the year and wages not to exceed $4,800;

• Deputy Clerk-Treasurer: $15 per hour worked, with hours not to exceed 465 during the year and wages not to exceed $7,000;

• Deputy Town Marshal(s): $25 per hour worked, paid out of the General Fund and not to exceed $13,000, along with a $400 uniform allowance paid out equally in January and July 2021;

• Street Superintendent(s): $18 per hour worked, with hours not to exceed 265 during the year and wages not to exceed $4,800;

• Occasional Labor: $15 per hour worked, pulled from the “appropriate fund.”

In other business:

• The council voted to continue holding its regular meetings on the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m.

• The council approved to retain Stu Weliever as its town attorney.

• Council President Cary McGaughey announced that the town’s grant application for constructing its new water tower was not accepted by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA).

Despite this, he said the state “really liked” the town’s proposal and would help go over improvements to it. Round 1 applications for 2021 will be due to OCRA next June.

Council members Norma Jean Gross and Cathy Jones joined McGaughey for the meeting. Weliever was not in attendance.

The next regular meeting of the Russellville Town Council is set for Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Russellville Community Center.
