Vaccine now available to those 70-plus

Thursday, January 14, 2021

While the COVID-19 vaccine is now available in Indiana to those age 70 and older, the process for getting the vaccine in Putnam County remains the same.

The vaccine is now available to individuals age 70 and older (a change from a week ago) as well as to licensed and unlicensed healthcare workers and first responders who have face-to-face interactions with patients or infectious material or work in a public-facing position that requires in-person contact.

A photo ID and proof of age or verification of current employment as a healthcare worker or first responder in Indiana will be required.

The current vaccine available for those eligible in Putnam County is the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine. This is a two-dose series, with 28 days between the two doses. Patients must be 18 years or older to receive the Moderna vaccine.

For more information on the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, visit https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine/.

Those eligible for the vaccine may make an appointment starting Friday by calling 2-1-1 from any phone, or visiting https://putnamhealthindiana.org and following the link.

The Putnam County Health Department is providing vaccinations. Walk-ins will not be accepted. All vaccinations must be scheduled.

As the state determines the next eligible populations to receive the vaccines, PCHD will continue to release that information to the public.

Meanwhile, Putnam County remains rated red in the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) COVID-19 metrics.

Red is the highest level of alert, along with 73 of the state’s 92 counties.

To date, there have been 2,780 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Putnam County, along with 46 deaths.

  • Sadly the closest place to actually get signed up is Terre Haute {checked at 8:20 this morning}

  • I would think at this point in this pandemic, the local health department would be ready for mass vaccinations. Hendricks county has been using their fairgrounds for a while. Where is the leadership locally? Dr. Heavin, did the rest of the department retire with you? No press releases in the banner? The website has links to information, but unable to schedule anything. Looks like Terre Haute and Danville are our only options.

  • The scheduling changes continually due to the amount of vaccine they receive. Each location is different. I took the earliest available and got Hendricks Co for the 28th. My friend scheduled the same day and she got the 19th at Putnam County. No the health department did not retire with Dr. Heaven. They can only do what the state mandates them to do, which is the same in every town. The health department I am sure is as overwhelmed and frustrated as we are.

  • H-lake34. You state there is no information in the Banner? What are you replying to? A Banner article from the Board of Health. How much more information do you want?

  • How many doses of vaccine are allocated to Putnam County each day? According to the Indiana State Covid 19 dashboard on January 13 there were 55 people vaccinated in Putnam county and on the 14th only 27 people were vaccinated. Either the States Covid 19 dashboard is wrong or Putnam county is not getting the vaccine needed.
