Two suspects arrested in connection with recent armed robberies at Brazil and Crawfordsville gas stations have criminal histories in Putnam County as well.

Shane Dentler, 18, Terre Haute, who is currently in the Montgomery County Jail, is facing felony charges of armed robbery and theft in both Clay and Montgomery counties.

Dentler was arrested Jan. 8 along with Sheena Steigmeyer, 30, also of Terre Haute, following an armed robbery at a Speedway gas station in Crawfordsville.

Steigmeyer is facing charges of aiding in an armed robbery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of syringes and possession of stolen property.

The duo may also be suspects in a Jan. 4 Putnam County armed robbery of the Tobacco Road station at Interstate 70 and State Road 243.

Locally, Dentler was arrested Oct. 27 on a theft charge after he allegedly used an incorrect bar code to make a purchase at the Greencastle Walmart U-scan station.

Dentler reportedly used a bar code he had removed from a 94-cent shot glass to scan the price for what should have been a $178 tool kit.

He was summoned into court but failed to appear in Putnam Superior Court for a Jan. 13 initial hearing and an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Steigmeyer, meanwhile, is facing Putnam County charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, both Level 6 felonies, and carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor.

Arrested locally Nov. 12, she appeared before Putnam Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley, who entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf and set an April 18 pretrial conference date.

Meanwhile, after the Jan. 8 Crawfordsville robbery, witnesses provided a description of Dentler and both his car and direction of travel. Authorities quickly located the vehicle, arresting Dentler and Steigmeyer.

In the Montgomery County case, Dentler was charged with armed robbery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of syringes and possession of stolen property.

Steigmeyer was charged at Crawfordsville with aiding in an armed robbery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of syringes and possession of stolen property.

Dentler was also a suspect in the Jan. 3 Clay County armed robbery of the Brazil Casey’s General Store on U.S. 40. Charges of armed robbery, pointing a firearm, theft and carrying a handgun without a license were filed last week in that case.

Another suspect, who is not Steigmeyer, reportedly remains under investigation in the Brazil armed robbery.
