CLOVERDALE -- Following the sudden opening of one of its seats in December, the Cloverdale School Board is welcoming in a new member.

After conducting interviews with two applicants less than a week prior, the board unanimously approved Mike Rightmyer II to represent Jackson Township in Owen County during a special session held Monday evening.

Rightmyer told the Banner Graphic afterward that he was “coming in pretty green” as the newest board member, and thus gave few specifics and had no “preset agenda.”

“I’m coming in fairly neutral, (to) see what’s going on,” Rightmyer said. However, he suggested that the school corporation’s finances, as well as how Cloverdale Schools is academically and graduation-wise, were of interest to him.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be part of this,” Rightmyer concluded.

Rightmyer said he resides near the Lieber State Recreation Area and has had children at Cloverdale since the mid-1990s, with one more still to graduate. He also works as a fleet sales manager for M&K Truck Centers in Indianapolis.

Rightmyer succeeds JaceAnn Troutt, who resigned due to what was stated as personal reasons. Elected to the board in 2016, Troutt had no opponent in last November’s election and earned another term.
