GCSC to return to regular, in-person instruction Monday

Wednesday, January 27, 2021

Greencastle Community Schools will return to regular, in-person instruction for all grade levels on Monday, Feb. 1.

Supt. Jeff Gibboney made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, noting that the decision coincided with the county's return to the "orange" rating on the Indiana State Department of Health metrics map.

The school corporation had been in Stage 2 of its learning plan since around Thanksgiving, which means middle school and high schools were in the hybrid learning model, with students attending school two days a week and learning virtually the other days.

"In preparation for all students returning to our buildings, I have asked administrators to review COVID-19 protocols with staff and students," Gibboney said." We are asking for your cooperation in prioritizing and complying with all COVID-19 protocols in order for our schools to begin and remain in Stage 1."

  • If teachers are going to be asked to face full classes again, I think they should be able to go to the front of the line for the vaccine. That this hasn't happened is a real shame.

  • Totally disagree with the above comments. IF a teacher is in a high risk group (over 65 - Doubtful since most will be retired, or with co-morbidity) they are ALREADY eligible. If neither of these apply then ALL the data available shows that schools (w/ the safety precautions that GCSC already has in place) are NOT an increased risk of transmission. We need to be focusing on the population with ACTUAL risk at this point.
