County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:12 a.m. Deric L. Coffman, 26, Freedom, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated - refusal, theft and two counts of resisting law enforcement.

• At 2:57 a.m. Alanna S. Tinch, 27, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for theft.

Saturday

• At 10:12 p.m. Chad A. Presser, 33, Bainbridge, was housed at the jail for criminal mischief.

• At 8:47 p.m. Joshua R. Junge, 41, Carmel, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 8:37 p.m. Scott A. Hockman, 49, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated endangering a person, reckless driving and an open container violation.

• At 12:01 a.m. Amanda B. Witz, 26, Greencastle, was taken into custody for criminal trespass.

Friday

• At 6:31 p.m. William I. Withrow, 49, Roachdale, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction and driving with a suspended license.

• At 5:34 p.m. Kenneth R. Baird, 57, Cloverdale, was booked in for driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 11:28 p.m. on Thursday, Austin P. Neitzel, 20, Mooresville, was westbound on State Road 240 in a 2000 Ford F-350.

Neitzel was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control driving through snow drifting across the road. This resulted in him leaving the north side of the road, hitting a ditch and rolling over at least once before coming to rest on its wheels.

Neitzel was up and alert, with minor cuts to his left forearm. He declined medical treatment.

The truck was towed. Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

• At 7:58 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries at the Soapy Joe’s car wash. Units arrived on the scene at 8:02 p.m. after a vehicle crashed into the building. GFD made sure the structure was sound and cleared debris. GFD went back into service at 8:35 p.m.

• At 1 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 415 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:04 and determined the alarm was due to hairspray. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:10 p.m.

• At 9:23 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 1001 Avenue F for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 9:27 and determined that a leak was coming from the furnace. Both the gas and furnace were shut off, and personnel advised repair. GFD went back into service at 9:36 a.m.

• At 12:04 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries near Nelson & Co. Units arrived on the scene at 12:09 and cleared debris and fluid from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 12:34 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed nine medical assists.
