City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, Amy Wallace, 36, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Wallace was taken into custody at Indiana and Franklin streets on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear in court on original charges of resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct. She was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Four recent accidents were investigated by city officers.

• At 9:51 a.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at North Jackson Street and Shadowlawn Boulevard.

Officer Brad Hiatt reported that David Parent, 52, Bainbridge, was southbound on Jackson Street, preparing to turn left onto Shadowlawn when he turned his 2017 Toyota Tundra into the path of a northbound 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Jerry Wardlow, 74, Greencastle.

Although the vehicles struck head-on, neither driver was injured as airbags deployed.

The Wardlow car sustained heavy front-end damage with total damage estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Snow on the roadway likely contributed to the ability of drivers to stop quickly, Officer Hiatt noted.

• At 12:04 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle accident occurred on North Jackson near Depot Street.

Kenneth Stone, 36, Greencastle, was southbound on Jackson Street, slowing to turn left into Nelson’s just beyond the viaduct. The 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving, owned by Walnut Creek Fire Department, was struck from behind by a 2012 Buick, driven by Emma Records, 19, Elnora.

Records said she dropped some food and looked down momentarily just prior to the collision.

She hit her head on the steering wheel, Officer Zach Rhine reported, and was checked out at the scene. Stone, meanwhile, declined medical attention at the scene.

Total damage was listed at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, an accident at Soapy Joe’s Car Wash at Putnam Plaza resulted in an estimated $2,500-$5,000 damage.

Officer McDaniel reported the Brandon Sperry, 45, Crawfordsville, was attempting to wash a 2016 GMC U-Haul before returning it, when he pulled the vehicle into the wash bay. The front of the truck was too tall and made contact with the top of the bay, dislodging a steel beam that fell partially into the wash bay and scratched the hood of the vehicle.

Also knocked loose were several bricks, which fell on the hood and windshield of the vehicle.

Sperry suffered a nose injury but declined treatment at the scene.

He told Officer McDaniel that he saw a height limit on another bay and thought he’d be OK in the far east bay before impact occurred.

• At 12:18 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, a two-vehicle mishap occurred at Round Barn Manor off Round Barn Road as Rebecca Mason, 66, Fillmore, was driving through the property and her 2017 Kia Sportage was struck by a 1999 Ford F-150 truck being backed out by Tommy Landow, 62, Greencastle.

The ball hitch on Landow’s truck damaged the passenger-side door, right fender and rocker panel of the Kia, Officer Hiatt reported. There was no damage to the Landow vehicle.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes, both taking place while snow was falling heavily on Monday afternoon.

• At 4:15 p.m., Jon L. Shannan, 38, Sawyerville, Ill., was eastbound on Interstate 70 near the 32-mile marker in a 2014 Dodge Journey when he lost control.

The vehicle left control and traveled into the median, striking the cable barrier, which caused extensive damage.

Neither Shannan nor his passenger was heard. Maj. Dwight Simmons reported they were both transported off the interstate and advised to make arrangements for removal of the car the following day when conditions improved.

Simmons estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 4:10 p.m., Deputy Kyle Lee was parked in a median/pullthrough on I-70 near the 41.5-mile marker with his lights activated. He was attempting to slow down eastbound traffic due to an earlier wreck in the area.

Singh Balroop, 26, Longueuil, Quebec, was eastbound in a 2011 Volvo tractor trailer registered to GST Trucking and did not get stopped in time, rear-ending a stopped 2018 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Kevin C. Byrum, 22, Terre Haute.

The collision then pushed Byrum’s vehicle into the back of a trailer pulled by David Wang, 41, Las Vegas, Nev., in a 2021 Mack semi registered to Rapid Transport.

Lee went to check on Byrum due to the violence of the collision. However, he said he was OK and declined medical treatment.

While the vehicles remained stopped, a fourth vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Gerrod K. Burd, 31, Columbus, Ohio, crashed into the back of original semi.

Only Byrum’s vehicle had to be towed.

Lee estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.
