Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Taylor E. Gumz, 26, Morganfield, Ky., was northbound on U.S. 231 waiting to turn onto County Road 300 South (Jones Road) in a 2019 Ford F-Series Super Duty. Lily M. Bean, 20, Spencer, was northbound in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.

Gumz told Deputy Nate Trissel that as she waited to turn left, she was rear-ended by Bean’s truck.

Bean told Trissel she saw the Ford pickup stopping but then thought it started, so she let off her brakes and then the other truck stopped and she wasn’t able before hitting it.

Bean’s vehicle suffered heavy front-end damage and was towed. Trissel estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

Gumz suffered no injury. Bean suffered an abrasion to her lower arm.

Additionally, Bean had an infant in the vehicle with her. The child was checked out by professionals, but she was advised to take the infant to Riley Hospital to be examined further.

Trissel was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Anthony Brown.

• At 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jacob Farley, 21, Clinton, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2016 Ford Fusion when he hit a deer.

Deputy Trissel estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, Bryce A. Wiggins, 18, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 375 East approaching a 90-degree turn in a 2004 Ford F-150.

The gravel road was soft due to roadway conditions and Wiggins lost control navigating the corner, leaving the road and hitting a tree with the front driver’s-side fender. After the initial contact, the passenger-side fender and door hit another tree.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000. The truck was towed.
