REELSVILLE — Firefighters were able to contain a large field fire Monday evening with the help of area residents.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the Reelsville/Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area of County Roads 350 West and 875 South for a possible out-of-countrol field fire.

Upon arrival, a crew in the department’s brush truck found a fire that was producing flames five feet high and covering at least a 25-acre field.

Firefighters immediately requested an engine and tanker from their own department, as well as mutal aid from Cloverdale Township, Greencastle, Madison Township and the State Farm.

As extinguishing efforts began, the property owner showed up to assist with a tractor and disc, as well as another neighbor with a four wheeler with water tanks.

The fire was contained quickly and all mutual aid was canceled.

The property owner said he would stay with a small brush pile that was contained.

No injuries were reported.
