STATE COLLEGE, Pa., — A one-time DePauw University assistant basketball coach appears to be the next coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Multiple media outlets were reporting Monday afternoon that Penn State was espected to hire Purdue assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry for its open men’s basketball position.

Early in his coach career, Shrewsberry served as an assistant to longtime DePauw coach Bill Fenlon from 2001-03.

Aside from two stints as an assistant to Matt Painter at Purdue, Shrewsberry has also been on staffs of fellow DePauw alumnus Brad Stevens at Butler (2008-11) and for the Boston Celtics (2013-19).

  • Hate to see Micah leave Purdue. He has been a valued contributor to the success of the development of the young Purdue players. He will build a successful program at PSU.
