Putnam County Animal Shelter now open Sundays

Thursday, March 25, 2021

In order to better serve the public, the Putnam County Animal Care and Control Shelter is now open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. for adoptions. All animal surrenders are still by appointment only.

The shelter is operated through a partnership between the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Humane Society of Putnam County. The Humane Society’s financial support of the shelter is funded through donations, proceeds from Rescued Treasures thrift store and Humane Society memberships.

To become a member of the Humane Society, drop by Rescued Treasures and pick up a membership form. Applications are also available at Rescued Treasures for anyone wishing to volunteer at either the shelter or Rescued Treasures.

The animal shelter is currently open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Appointments are available at other times by calling 653-1943.

Animals that are currently available for adoptions can be viewed at Petfinder.com.

  • Great news! Hopefully this will help with getting more adoptions for the animals.
