Greencastle High School student Maiesha Rashid recently earned a third-place finish in the Rotary District 6560 Speech Contest held last week.

Out of seven total participants, Rashid received a total of 277 points out of 300, in which each of the three judges was allotted 100 points to award.

Like the Greencastle Rotary Club’s speech contest held on March 24, the district contest was held virtually. Contestants submitted a recorded video between seven and 10 minutes long on a topic of their choice.

Rashid discussed the importance of education, as well as focusing efforts on youth in communities so everyone can “be the change.” She was awarded a $500 prize.

Rashid was the first-place winner of Greencastle Rotary’s contest.

District 6560 is comprised of 45 Rotary clubs in Central Indiana.
