County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 10:17 p.m. Brandi L. Clodfelter, 39, Clayton, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a syringe.

• At 10:48 a.m. Jennifer M. Buttery, 28, Attica, was taken into custody on a writ of body attachment for two counts of driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 1:23 a.m. Edward N. Willis, 49, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a warrant for escape.

Saturday

• At 10:23 p.m. Jeremiah W. Bills, 42, Fillmore, was booked in for criminal recklessness, possession of methamphetamine, driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Friday

• At 5:18 p.m. David R. Myers, 57, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for driving a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, driving with an ACE of .15 percent or more and possession of marijuana.

• At 12:51 a.m. Cory E. Smith, 35, Crawfordsville, was housed at the jail on a warrant for counterfeiting, forgery and identity deception.

Thursday

• At 3:56 p.m. Sandy M. Greene, 24, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for auto theft.

• At 7:27 a.m. Kevin R. Spurrier, 47, Greencastle, was taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 4:10 p.m. Friday, Andre D. Giden, 44, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Taken into custody at a Fairview Street residence, Giden was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for criminal mischief, residential entry and invasion of privacy.

• At 10:14 p.m. Thursday, Charles P. Cooper, 33, Greencastle, was arrested at a Putnam County residence by Officer Alec Pettit.

Arrested on a warrant with original charges of battery against a public safety officer and criminal mischief, Cooper was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One recent traffic accident was investigated by city officers.

• At 6:43 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported at East Franklin and North Arlington streets.

Hailey Cavanaugh, 17, Fillmore, was westbound on Franklin Street driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty. After stopping at the stop sign, Cavanaugh attempted to turn left onto Arlington and pulled into the path of an eastbound 2009 Kia Spectra driven by Andria Collins, 40, Fillmore. Collins was not required to stop at the three-way intersection.

Officer Luke Brown estimated total damage at $2,500-$5,000.

Collins complained of chest and abdominal pain from the seatbelt following the collision. She was checked out by EMS personnel at the scene but not transported.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:27 p.m. on Friday, Linda L. Sedam, 82, Coatesville, was backing out of her driveway at 390 Jefferson Valley, Coatesville, in a 2020 GMC Acadia.

Sedam did not realize there was a 2003 Ford F-250 service truck registered to Clear Creek Conservancy parked in the road at the end of her driveway and backed into it.

Corporal Brian Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:20 p.m. on Friday, Nicole Clark, 44, Coatesville, was westbound on U.S. 36 east of Bainbridge in a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. Sevyn O. Sellers, 17, Coatesville, was also westbound in a 2001 Ford SE.

Clark was in the far-right lane and Sellers was in the secondary lane next to her.

Sellers told Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle she signaled to change lanes and move to the far-right lane but that Clark was in her blind spot. In changing lanes, Sellers made contact with Clark’s vehicle.

Rozelle estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 4:12 p.m. on Friday, Michael E. Burkes, 36, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching U.S. 40 in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. Brenda S. Long, 63, Cloverdale, was southbound in a 2002 Ford Ranger.

Burkes told Corporal Helmer there was another vehicle in front of him and he did not see Long enter the intersection. Once he saw her, he could not avoid a collision.

Long told Helmer that as she entered the intersection, Burkes pulled into her travel.

Both drivers were uninjured and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to two recent dispatches:

• At 1:47 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the horse barn at the Putnam County Fairgrounds for a smoke detector activation. Firefighters arrived at 1:53 and determined the alarm was due to a bad battery. GFD went back into service at 2:12 p.m.

• At 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident where Franklin and Arlington streets meet. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:47 and cleaned debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 7:02 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 14 medical assists and had one disregard.
