The Greencastle Arts Council, in collaboration with the Putnam County Museum, is currently accepting submissions to the second annual Putnam County Adult Visual Arts Exhibition: “Living Local.”

Deadline for online submission of work is May 16. The exhibit, which will take place at the museum, is scheduled to open on July 1 and conclude with a closing reception for the artists Sunday, Sept. 26 from 2-4 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are open to the public.

To include as wide a representation of regional talent as possible, the invitation to participate is extended to all professional and amateur adult artists, who have lived, worked, studied or were born in Putnam County. In addition to having their work exhibited at the museum, individuals whose pieces are selected will have opportunities to compete for multiple awards totaling a minimum of $600. If the artist chooses, their work may be offered for sale. This year’s first-prize winner also will receive two tickets to GAC’s celebrative annual Bonne Soirée, to be held at the Tiger Pointe Event Center on Nov. 5.

“Active encouragement and support of local art and artists is central to the Greencastle Arts Council’s mission. This exhibit not only honors our area artists but benefits them financially through cash awards,” said board member Toni Ridgway, who is co-coordinating the exhibit with printmaker and fellow GAC board member Matt Rees. “In its first year, our 2020 event identified and recognized work by 24 individual artists in Putnam County. Despite the Covid-19 health crisis, which may have limited participation, we felt the success of the inaugural countywide exhibit merited continuation in 2021 and into the future.”

To participate, artists must be 18 years of age or older, and artworks should not exceed five feet in height or width. A $15 application fee includes submission of up to three pieces in the exhibit, a one-year Greencastle Arts Council individual membership, and the closing artist reception at the PCM.

Interested individuals should submit their applications by the May 16 deadline. They can do so by uploading digital images of their work on to the GAC website (www.greencastleartscouncil.org), along with their artist’s statement, contact information and payment, or by emailing their materials (gacsubmission@gmail.com) and mailing a paper check to GAC Exhibition (P.O. Box 631, Greencastle, IN 46135).

After the initial review process is completed, participants will be notified and asked to deliver the works selected to the Putnam County Museum during the week of June 22–26. For additional information, visit the GAC website or contact gacsubmission@gmail.com.
