Raymond Wayne Peeler, 71, of Westfield, passed away Saturday evening at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, after a recent bicycle accident.

Ray grew up in rural Putnam County and was the second son of Richard and Marj Peeler.

He graduated from Reelsville High School in 1968, where he competed in basketball and track. He then attended the Illinois Institute of Technology for two years. After that he worked as an industrial designer in Chicago for most of his career, then the Seattle area, and finally the Indianapolis area.

One interesting bit of trivia about Ray is that he designed the original Softsoap bottle.

Ray enjoyed hiking, bicycling, international travel and designing and building original projects both large and small.

Ray is survived by his daughter Carrie (and Jerry) Jones of Eau Claire, Wis.; brothers Walter (and Andrea) Peeler of Tucson, Ariz., Stewart (and Elizabeth) Peeler of Tucson, Ariz., and Ralph (and Cathe) Peeler of Fairbanks, Ind.; and grandchildren Keagan and Caleb.

Raymond was surrounded by family members and the Rev. Lynn Dunning for his peaceful transition.

Disposition will be by cremation. No funeral services are planned.
