June Wells Smith

June Wells Smith, 82, of Greencastle, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at her residence with her family by her side.

June was born Aug. 12, 1938 in Putnam County to the late Shelby Lee and Ivene (Cunningham) Abbott.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greencastle. June graduated from Roachdale High School and Union Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse at Putnam County Hospital for many years in addition to being a local business owner.

She married Elmer Wells Jr., who preceded her in death on July 15, 1974. She married George Smith on June 23, 1984 and was married to him for 36 years.

Survivors include husband George Smith of Greencastle; three children, Robin Palatine (Richard) of Dunwoody, Ga., Deborah Tucker of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Arthur Lee Wells of Greencastle; a step-son, George K. Smith, of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Hailey Tucker of Chicago, Trevor Palatine of Athens, Ga., and Brant Tucker, Tallahassee, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Delmas Lee Abbott.

Private family services were held at an earlier date.
