Michael R. Moore, 69, of Greencastle, lost a valiant and fierce battle with cancer, his end-of-watch occurring on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

Mike was born on Jan. 5, 1952, the son of Richard and Dorothy (Sheffler) Moore.

He was a graduate of Southport High School. He also attended Indiana University.

Mike served the DePauw University community 15 years from 2005 until his retirement in June 2020.

He served the Indiana law enforcement community 46 years. He began his career in 1973 with the Indiana University Police Department, serving until 1978 when he joined the Indianapolis Airport Authority. Mike soon joined the Speedway Police Department in 1979, retiring with the rank of lieutenant in 2005.

Officer Moore was a valued addition to the DePauw family, bringing with him many years of experience and leadership in 2005. He served as the department’s firearms instructor and armorer, as well as helped implement the Officer’s Bicycle Patrol program. His expertise helped launch new means of outreach within the university community.

Mike will best be remembered for his intense professionalism and the consistent kindness shown to everyone he had opportunity to serve and assist, including all fur friends. There was no greater advocate for the campus cats than Officer Moore. He was truly a man of great wisdom who mentored many, the gentlest soul and the guy you always wanted at your side no matter the circumstances.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Vickie Moore.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, there will be no services or visitation and a cremation will take place at a later date.
