Jerry Lee Hooper

Jerry Lee Hooper, of West Terre Haute, passed away May 13, 2021.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1943 in West Terre Haute to Mae (Kluesner) Hooper and H. Irvin Hooper.

On Feb. 14, 1964 he married Jonnie (Smith) Hooper.

A 1961 graduate of West Vigo High School, he was a master electrician with IBEW Local 725 until his retirement in 2004. Jerry taught apprentice electricians for 28 years in the IBEW/NECA training program with IBEW local 725.

He was an avid woodworker and ham radio operator (WD9JKB). He was previously very active with Boy Scouts of America and West Vigo Jaycees supporting West Terre Haute in various ways. He was instrumental in saving the West Vigo Community Center, transiting it from the old Valley High School.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Village Parish.

Jerry’s greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his wife Jonnie and their children, Jay (Joni) Hooper of West Terre Haute and Trudy (Greg) Selvia of Greencastle; his grandchildren, Roy Hooper, Samantha Hooper, Julie (Chris) Rumple, Brand Selvia and Gabrielle Selvia; and great-grandchildren, Troy Ditto, Millie Lee and Eliza Hooper. He is also survived by his brother, Ben (Bev) Hooper and sisters Margi (Jim) Bays, Martha (Ron) Lowe, Judy (Lyle) Lepper and Debbie (Steve) Moore. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; his grandson, Matthew Hooper; sister Nancy Lindsay; and brothers Bill Hooper, Gerald Hooper, Timothy Hooper and Glen Hooper.

A walkthrough visitation will be at St. Mary’s Village Church, 3827 N. Arms Place, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, on Tuesday, May 18 from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at the church. He will be interred at Bethesda Cemetery.

Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, was entrusted with arrangements.
