Section of State Road 236 closing Monday
ROACHDALE — Motorists in northeastern Putnam County can expect a more complicated commute in the coming months.
The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Thursday that State Road 236 will close Monday, May 24 between Lonoke Street in Roachdale to about two miles west of North Salem.
This section is scheduled to be completed by August 16. Access will be maintained for homes and businesses.
The official detour follows U.S. 231 to U.S. 36 to S.R. 39 and back. No local detour route has been shared with county officials.
The project was awarded to Milestone Contractors L.P. for $9.1 million and will complete a cold in-place recycle under four separate road closures that will be publicized prior.
The project spans from U.S. 231 to just west of State Road 75.
A cold in-place recycle treatment, a type of resurface similar to a full-depth reclamation, is an environmentally-friendly method of removing and reusing the existing asphalt surface. It involves grinding off the top 2 to 5 inches of asphalt surface and mixing the crushed asphalt with an asphalt recycling agent, and placing git back down with a paver.
This results in a much stronger, stable base for the new road. It also results in less hauling away of materials.
INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.
