BELLMORE — A motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning in an apparent attempt to flee from a Parke County sheriff’s deputy.

Around 12:30 a.m., the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the area of U.S. 36 and State Road 59. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the motorcycle fled westbound at a high rate of speed and the deputy lost sight of the fleeing vehicle.

While checking the area, the deputy located debris in the area of Seip Road, about one mile west of the attempted stop.

The deputy located the motorcycle and driver lying in a ditch.

Though deputies attempted lifesaving treatment until fire and EMS personnel arrived, the male subject was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity.

Assisting agences included Rockville Police Department, Bellmore Fire Department, Parke County EMS and Parke County Coroner’s Office.
