First Friday to return this week

Monday, May 31, 2021

Main Street Greencastle has announced that this Friday will be the first in-person First Friday since October 2019.

The event, set to last from 6-11 p.m. in downtown Greencastle, will include a number of precautions to help ensure a safe and healthy event. Organizers suggest that people still wear a mask if they do not feel comfortable or to stay home if they feel sick or have any symptoms.

Baker Septic has donated some additional hand-washing stations for this year and Main Street is encouraging all vendors to supply hand sanitizer at their booths.

As always, there will be three stages of live music, three beer gardens and a ton of options to choose from for food.

This year, organizers are leaning toward a much more craft-friendly event with fewer retail booths and fewer non-profit booths. A variety of handmade items and art pieces should be available this year.

Also new this year, First Friday will include a “Kid-Zone” on Franklin Street, between Indiana and Vine streets. This section will feature games, arts and crafts, and a snowcone truck.

The return of First Friday is being sponsored by Abstract and Title, which will have a booth and tent set up on the northeast corner of the courthouse. The company will be giving away some prizes, handing out candy and hosting a a business card raffle.

First Friday will take place in the same layout as previous years: Franklin Street from Jackson to College and Indiana Street from Franklin to Walnut.

The event will not have themes this year as in the past. With the addition of the Kid Zone and more craft vendors, organizers believe it will be a slightly different event in 2021.
