CLOVERDALE — As the hottest day so far in 2021 turned into a stormy night, portions of southern Putnam County felt the force of large hailstones.

Severe Weather Specialist Chris Edwards of the Putnam County Emergency Management Agency reported hail falling at about 2.25 inches around 7:30 p.m. Friday a few miles southeast of Cloverdale.

Other reports in the Cloverdale and Reelsville areas estimated some of the hail at 2.5 to 3 inches.

Overnight a much larger, though less violent, storm came through the entire area, dropping buckets of rain.

EMA Public Information Officer Russ Evans reported 3.75 inches of rain on the east side of Greencastle Saturday morning.
