George Michael ‘Mike’ Harrigan

George Michael “Mike” Harrigan, 81, of Greencastle, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville.

Mike was born in Cincinnati on Nov. 27, 1939, the son of George Joseph and Mildred (Espel) Harrigan.

He was a graduate of Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati.

Mr. Harrigan was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He owned and operated Surge Dairy Equipment for many years prior to working as director of maintenance for North Putnam Community Schools, where he served for 22 years until his retirement.

Mike enjoyed woodworking in his shop, and celebrating his Irish heritage with rousing renditions of “The Harrigan Song.

He loved easy listening music and working with his scroll saw. Mike made numerous gifts for family and friends. He enjoyed people and always had time for a conversation.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Harrigan; three children, Jeffery M. Harrigan (wife Michelle), Jean M. Rosys (husband Gary) and Kevin J. Harrigan (wife Mary); three brothers, Ray Harrigan (wife Carroll), Danny Harrigan (wife Sherry), and Larry Harrigan (wife Dee); a sister, Ann Harrigan; Marilyn Harrigan (the mother of his children); as well as 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Pat, Joe and Tim Harrigan, and two sisters, Marie Zeph and Kay Dube.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, July 31 from 12:30-3 p.m. at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Greencastle.
