County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Saturday

• At 8:36 p.m. Kellsey L. Keyt, 24, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, two counts of unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and on a local warrant.

• At 5:15 p.m. Corey A. Ferguson, 30, Bedford, was taken into custody on a Morgan County warrant.

Friday

• At 6:27 p.m. Christian J. Givens, 36, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail as a habitual traffic violator.

• At 4:54 p.m. Stevie L. Capps, 19, Clayton, was booked in for dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction and possession of marijuana.

• At 1:40 a.m. Donald J. Bickley, 55, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Thursday

• At 10:32 p.m. Christopher T. Smith, 29, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 4:11 p.m. Norman E. Taylor, 52, Centerpoint, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

• At 1:52 p.m. Stanley E. McKinney, 39, Bainbridge, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 6 p.m. Saturday, Trystien Boswell, 22, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Taken into custody on Taylor Place and lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Boswell was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (no blood-alcohol level was available), resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of an accident and being a operator never licensed.

• At 8:31 a.m. Saturday, Scott Ezman, 48, Coatesville, was arrested by Sgt. Ed Wilson.

Arrested near Olive Street and South College Avenue, Ezman was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct, intimidation and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 3:44 a.m. Saturday, Indeyana Whitney, 28, Indianapolis, was arrested by Sgt. Brad Hiatt.

Arrested at Bloomington and Hanna streets, Whitney was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Whitney registered a .177 percent blood-alcohol concentration and was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

• At 11:37 p.m. Thursday, John Nelson, 71, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody on the parking lot of the Dollar General store on Indianapolis Road, Nelson was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Nelson registered a .138 percent blood-alcohol concentration and was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers.

• At 3:10 p.m. Friday, Timothy Mellender, 28, Indianapolis, was issued a summons into court by Officer Bunten.

Mellender was cited for obstruction of traffic for blocking traffic along North Jackson Street, just north of the courthouse crosswalk, to make deliveries from his delivery truck while southbound traffic was reportedly forced to go around in the northbound lane.

• At 5:57 p.m. Thursday, Graden Hood, 23, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Alec Pettit.

Stopped on Jackson Street, Hood was cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 11:48 a.m. on Sunday, Gary B. Bone, 75, Fillmore, was northbound on Heritage Drive at Emergency Exit 58 in a 1966 Pontiac LeMans. Russell W. Keck, 38, Bainbridge, was southbound at the same intersection in a 2005 Chevrolet truck pulling a trailer.

There is a curve at the intersection. Both Keck and a witness who was southbound behind him said that Bone made no attempt to turn, but continued straight at the curve, crossing the center line and crashing into Keck’s trailer.

Bone told Cpl. Brian Helmer that he did not remember how the crash occurred.

Bone was transported from the scene with a complaint of pain over his entire body. His passenger, 73-year-old Pamela Bone of Fillmore, was also transported with bleeding on her elbow/lower arm area.

Bone’s car was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Adam R. Ammons, 19, Bainbridge, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 1993 Cadillac 60S when he lost control and hit the guardrail on the east side of the road.

The car bounced off the guardrail and came to rest in a ditch on the east side.

Ammons told Cpl. Helmer he reached into the backseat to grab a sweatshirt and in doing so, his knee hit the wheel and he lost control.

The car was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent incidents:

• At 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 792 E. CR 200 North for a hay fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:29 and found that 22 hay bales were on fire. The fire was prevented from catching a nearby barn and extinguished. GFD went back into service at 12:10 p.m.

• At 4 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 1056 Indianapolis Rd. for a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived at 4:02 and were advised that the fire was already out. It was determined that a cigarette had been thrown into a trash can and ignited its contents. GFD went back into service at 4:32 p.m.

• At 11:25 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Veterans Highway and Bloomington Street for communications lines taken down by a truck. Firefighters arrived at 11:29 and took the lines down. GFD went back into service at 11:35 a.m.

• At 12:29 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at County Road 275 East and County Road 350 South. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:36 and were advised that patient care had been done. GFD went back into service at 12:57 p.m.

• At 8:05 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 124 Woods Edge Blvd. for a smoke alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:14 and were advised by the homeowner that the alarm was due to burnt food. GFD went back into service at 8:30 a.m.

• At 8:09 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 1021 Indianapolis Rd. for a hot smell emanating from a breaker panel. Firefighters arrived at 8:13 and found no signs of a fire. An electrician was called, and GFD went back into service at 8:41 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 14 medical assists and had three disregards.
