BRAZIL — The Brazil Concert Band will present Spanish-inspired compositions this Sunday, Aug. 22 at Forest Park, rain or shine.

The Covered Bridge Chorus will not be singing at 7 p.m. as originally planned. However, the band will still perform as scheduled at 8 p.m.

This week, the band will perform a “south of the border” theme with “Amparito Roca” by Jaime Texidor, “Trombrero,” a trombone trio by Frank Cofield, “Mariachi for Band” by Harold Walters, “The Golden Ear,” a pasodoble by Mariano San Miguel, and “Fiesta del Rio” by D. L. Walters.

John Philip Sousa wrote several operettas during his career with the most famous being “El Capitan,” whose plot involves a 17th-century viceroy from Peru. Two compositions, “El Capitan Waltzes” and the famous march “El Capitan,” will be played.

The rest of the concert includes “Tico-Tico” arranged by Dick Kent, “Trumpets, Ole!” by Frank Cofield, “La Roquina” by W. B. Green, “Blue Tango” by Leroy Anderson and “The Picadore” by Sousa.

The grand finale for the Brazil Concert Band’s 2021 season will be Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
