Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 1:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Karissa J. Nease, 28, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 725 East when she lost control of her 2015 Chevrolet Sonic.

The car left the road and entered a beanfield, damaging some of the crops.

After looking at the skid marks, Cpl. Brian Helmer asked Nease if she was going a little fast. Nease said she might have been.

Trimble’s Towing pulled the vehicle from the ditch.

Helmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 7:56 a.m. on Wednesday, Paige T. Russell, 47, Cloverdale, was northbound on County Road 25 West approaching the 90-degree turn onto County Road 250 South in a 2011 Bluebird 78-passenger bus registered to Greencastle Community Schools. Rance A. Glassburn, 16, Greencastle, was eastbound on 250 South in a 2003 Toyota Camry.

As Russell turned left and Glassburn turned right, the two vehicles collided right at the 90-degree turn, with the left front of Glassburn’s car hitting the side of the bus.

Russell told Chief Deputy Matt Demmings she was going down the road and did not see anyone, then saw the car between her mirror and bus frame and did not have time to react.

Glassburn told Demmings he was taking the corner “and the bus smoked me.”

Demmings reported that the impact area appeared to be in Glassburn’s lane of travel. The deputy also noted that there are yellow warning signs of the 90-degree curve with a recommended speed of 15 mph in both directions.

Glassburn’s vehicle was towed. Demmings, assisted by Deputy Kyle Gibbons, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:15 p.m. on Monday, Kaley M. Hodge, 16, Cloverdale, was parked, preparing to leave the gas station at U.S. 40 and U.S. 231 in a 2018 Ford Edge.

Hodge told Deputy Robert Soilleux an older model small, white pickup driven by an old, white-haired man backed up and hit the front of her car with his driver’s side door.

Hodge said the man then said something she could not understand before driving off.

Soilleux estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 6:19 p.m. on Monday, Billie J. Rodgers, 45, Brazil, was southbound on County Road 375 West in a 2017 Chevrolet Trax. David E. Albright, 54, Greencastle, was in front of her in a 1998 Mazda B-Series truck.

Rodgers told Deputy Soilleux that Albright suddenly put on his turn signal and stopped and that she could not stop in time to avoid hitting him.

Albright told the deputy he used his turn signal, slowed down and was in the middle of turning into his driveway when Rodgers’ vehicle struck his.

Albright complained of back pain and was transported to the hospital by medics. Rodgers complained of pain and had red marks on her forearms and wrist. She was treated at the scene.

Rodgers’ vehicle was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, Jake A. Ryan, 20, Bargersville, was eastbound on Rangeline Road in a 2014 Ford F-150. Jeffery A. Huff, 58, Greencastle, was turning out of a driveway in a 1982 Chevrolet Hi-Cube Cutaway van.

Ryan told Deputy Josh Deal that Huff pulled into his lane of travel and he could not avoid a collision.

Huff agreed with Ryan’s account, but added that a telephone pole obstructed his view.

Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
