James D. ‘Jimmy’ Hilburn Jr.

James D. Hilburn Jr. “Jimmy,” 53, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021 due to declining health conditions.

Jimmy was born July 22, 1968, in Greencastle, to James “Jim” and Linda Hutcheson Hilburn.

He is survived by his daughter, Chelsea (Nate) O’Hair; his son, Isaac Hilburn (Carmen Foster); grandson Bowen Allen O’Hair; granddaughter Baylor Rose O’Hair; and two bonus grandsons, Nolan and Briggs O’Hair.

He graduated from North Putnam High School in 1986, then attended Vincennes University.

He served as president for many years on the Walnut Creek Fire District and was also a member of the Bainbridge Christian Church.

Jimmy was a farmer in his younger life and was also employed for several years at Dixie Chopper where he was the national service manager. Dixie Chopper was a true passion to him.

His hobbies included many years of truck pulling on different levels. He ended his ITPA career winning the championship in his truck “Horseplay.”

He enjoyed several decades of 4-H with his family and children and could be found in the Swine Barn or at the pulling strip.

He was raised with three brothers, Adam, Matthew and Kyle, and a sister, Teresa.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Lewis and Olus Hutcheson, Joy and Ethel Hilburn; his oldest son, JD Hilburn, and youngest daughter, Chandler Joy Hilburn.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam County Fair (designated to the truck pulling strip) or to Riley Children’s Hospital in honor of his grandson Bowen O’Hair who battles Type 1 diabetes.

Visitation will be at Bousley Funeral Home, Coatesville, on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery in Reelsville
