James A. Swinney, 69, of Greencastle, passed away on Aug. 25, 2021 at Hendricks Regional Health, with his daughters by his side.

Jim was born on Dec. 18, 1951 in Indianapolis to the late Dorothy L. (Farmer) and James R. Swinney.

Jim worked in the family business as a repairman for Swinney Zenith TV, before working in maintenance for Indianapolis Water Co. for more than 25 years, retiring in 2017. Family was important to Jim. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, watching hummingbirds and wildlife from his front porch, fishing, camping and off-road riding on his UTVs. He was known for his cooking, especially his creative uses of onions and peppers and catching butter on fire. He will be remembered as a hardworking man who loved to tell stories and pull pranks on family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Wright, and a nephew Macklin J. Swinney.

He is survived by his daughters, Karla Mullins (Kevin), Jamie Tucker (Michael) and Danelle Martin (Cory); sister Dana Wright; brothers Mike Swinney (Kim), Pat Swinney (Bonnie), Mark Swinney (Liz) and Scott Swinney (Dinah Alsept); grandchildren Emma Mullins, Laila Tucker and Grayson Tucker; partner Sally Schank and his beloved Yorkie, Gizmo.

Family and friends will gather for James’ life celebration visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 4-8 p.m. at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the services at 1 p.m.

Final arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
