Greencastle trick-or-treat effort again set for Halloween night

Keeping with tradition, neighborhood door-to-door trick-or-treating in Greencastle will be Sunday, Oct. 31 from 5-8 p.m., the City Council agreed Thursday night.

Mayor Bill Dory stressed that city officials are only responsible for approving the door-to-door activity in city neighborhoods.

The fact that there will be no downtown trick-or-treat effort this year is due to most offices and stores being closed on Saturdays and Sundays. That decision, however, has come from private business and Main Street Greencastle and Chamber of Commerce and not City Hall.

While Greencastle will retain its tradition of celebrating the holiday on the holiday, at least four other communities – Bainbridge, Cloverdale and Roachdale – have set Saturday, Oct. 30 for trick-or-treat. Cloverdale is 5-8 p.m. with Fillmore, Bainbridge and Roachdale 6-8 p.m., according to information compiled by City Hall.

A number of other activities are planned for Oct. 30, including efforts at the library, Shops of Putnam Plaza and others, leading Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Brian Cox to suggest that the city’s choice of Oct. 31 might be a good alternative for some parents when he was asked during his appearance on another matter at the Council meeting.

-- DePauw Halloween trick-or-treat, 5-7 p.m., East College lawn.

-- Greencastle Eagles Lodge trick-or-treat 5-7 p.m., 207 Elizabeth St.

-- First Baptist Church treats and treasures, 5-7 p.m.

-- Town of Cloverdale, 5-8 p.m.

-- Town of Bainbridge, 5-8 p.m.

-- Town of Roachdale, 6-8 p.m.

-- Town of Fillmore, 6-8 p.m.
