GHS class of 1971 plans reunion

Monday, September 13, 2021

The 1971 graduating class of Greencastle Senior High School has announced its 50th anniversary reunion weekend Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17.

An outdoor soiree (rain or shine) occurs on Saturday afternoon and the actual reunion on Sunday evening.

Saturday’s lawn party is aimed at those local classmates unable to attend the Sunday event due to conflicts but can meet old friends and classmates a day early. All 1971 alumni are invited.

The festivities begin at 1 p.m. and will be highlighted by a tour of the present-day high school building and McAnally Center hosted by high school principal Chad Rodgers. The gathering will end around 4 p.m.

This outdoor gala is being hosted by Class of ’71 alumni and Greencastle residents Phil and Susan Gick.

The authentic reunion will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Inn at DePauw and run from 6-10:30 p.m. approximately.

The evening will begin with a social hour of reacquaintance and rediscovery and have a cash bar. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 8:30, at which point acknowledgments, thanks and short addresses will follow.

A post-dinner social assembly will then commence from 9-10 p.m. with cash bar.

As a special part of the event, classmates unable to attend because of conflicts, health or distance can join virtually from 9-9:40 p.m. on Zoom.

At 10 p.m. closing comments will be made, and the evening will end with a special video presentation remembering people, places and activities from 50 years ago juxtaposed with the present high school campus.

The 10:10-10:30 p.m. period is reserved for photo taking and farewells.
