James Robert McHugh Sr., 84, of Quincy, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 at Advanced Rehab of Vernon, Texas.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1936 in Indianapolis to George and Francis (Gross) McHugh.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. James was a business owner outside Indianapolis Motor Speedway working on racecars, and was a tool-and-die engineer and supervisor at the Chrysler foundry in Indianapolis, later managing the co-op in Quincy. He was a man of many talents.

He was preceded in death by brother William McHugh of Fillmore and sister Barbara Harris of Maryland.

James is survived by five children, Robin (McHugh) Hazelbaker of Brazil, James Robert McHugh Jr. and wife Melanie (Sutherlin) McHugh of Cloverdale, Pamela (McHugh) LaVigne and Norman LaVigne of Tennessee, Linda (McHugh) Walser and husband Sam Walser of Chillicothe, Texas, and Joseph R. McHugh and Mary Reavis of Columbus; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Combes Cemetery, County Road 1050 North, Quincy, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
