Mary Etta (Flesher) McKenzie

Mary Etta (Flesher) McKenzie, 90, of Orlando, Fla., and previously of Brazil, passed away on Nov. 14, 2021 following a lengthy illness.

Mary was born on Feb. 21, 1931 in Dugger, the daughter of Oran McKinley Flesher and Laura Mae (Siner) Flesher.

Mary graduated from Riley High School with the class of 1949.

She married Herman A. McKenzie on May 28, 1950. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1998.

Mary worked at General Housewares, Arketex and Kmart. She also was a caregiver for several years. She was a member of the Mount Calvary Church where she taught Sunday school.

Years after her husband Herman passed away, she re-established a relationship with her high school sweetheart, Cletus Stewart. As their relationship grew, she moved to Florida to be with him. They were married in a civil union on Jan. 1, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Laura Flesher; her husband, Herman McKenzie; and siblings Joy McKenzie, Ralph Flesher, Floyd Flesher, Leo Flesher and Joan Farmer.

She leaves behind her husband, Cletus Stewart; three children, Diana York of Greencastle, Tonia Heady (David) of Terre Haute and Jeffrey McKenzie of Terre Haute; grandchildren Tabitha Wright (James), Jarrod Heady and Angela Garl (Jacob); great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Wright, Lauryn Wright, Remington Garl, Maddelyn Garl, Maverick Garl and Eleanor Garl; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, IN 47834, on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Services will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with her nephew Alan Farmer officiating. Burial will be held at Mount Calvary VanCleve Cemetery.
