County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 4:28 a.m. Wilson H. May III, 39, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine.

Friday

• 8:31 p.m. Jaggar O. Hamilton, 43, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for harassment and invasion of privacy.

• At 11:02 a.m. Tracy J. Hausdorfer, 21, Bloomington, was housed at the jail for battery, battery with bodily injury, battery by bodily waste, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

• At 12:11 a.m. Benjamin T. O’Hair, 36, Russellville, was lodged at the jail for invasion of privacy.

Thursday

• At 7:56 p.m. Shellby R. Hook, 21, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of marijuana and driving while intoxicated.

• At 7:18 p.m. Brandy N. Tomlin, 32, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a Clay County warrant.

• At 6:34 p.m. Joshua D. Ellington, 22, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction and criminal trespass.

• At 6:33 p.m. Dennis L. Kent, 44, Cloverdale, was booked in on a warrant.

• At 3:17 p.m. Sabrina S. Stevens, 33, Mecca, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 9:22 a.m. Kevin M. Bippus, 34, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a warrant.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 5:30 a.m. Friday, Michael W. Wise, 61, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody at a Bloomington Street residence, Wise was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of criminal recklessness and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Two recent citations were issued by GPD officers.

• At 12:40 p.m. Friday, Derrick Maxwell, 19, Terre Haute, was ticketed for speeding by Reserve Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped at Veterans Memorial Highway and South Jackson Street, Maxwell was cited for 78 mph in a 40-mph zone.

• At 2:20 p.m. Friday, Jayland Imhausen, 20, Greencastle, was cited by Reserve Officer DeWitt.

Stopped at College and Shadowlawn avenues, Imhausen was ticketed for a learner’s permit violation.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 12:10 a.m. on Monday, Tashina L. Arthur, 36, Bloomington, was traveling on U.S. 231 in a 2016 Toyota Sienna when she hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000. The vehicle was towed.

•At 8:06 p.m. on Saturday, Parker S. McIntyre Craig, 17, Danville, turned west on U.S. 40 in the eastbound lanes in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu.

McIntyre Craig told Deputy Josh Clark he noticed the do not enter sign and tried to make a U-turn to get to the turn lane to go west. He said he could not make the turn and had to back up to be able to make the turn to get into the lane. At that point, he backed into the path of an eastbound 2006 Nissan Altima driven westbound by Ruth A. Rutenberg, 41, Greencastle.

Neither driver was injured.

Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000. McIntyre Craig’s vehicle had to be towed.

• At 4:09 a.m. Melinda K. Bartley, 50, Terre Haute, was southbound on Manhattan Road in a 2017 Jeep Renegade when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 3:17 a.m. on Saturday, Herman W. Rhude, 39, Cloverdale, was westbound on U.S. 40 near Mount Meridian in a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire when he hit a deer.

Deputy Deal estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 1:01 a.m. on Friday, Lyndon J. Briones, 18, Greencastle, was traveling on U.S. 231 in a 2012 Honda Civic when she hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 8:08 p.m. on Thursday, Kevin C. Richardson, 52, Rockville, was traveling on U.S. 231 in a 2008 Acura RDX when he hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent incidents:

• At 2:52 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on County Road 175 South. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:55 and extricated a motorist from a vehicle in a ditch, as well as assisted with cleanup. GFD went back into service at 4:11 a.m.

• At 8:40 a.m. on Friday, GFD went to 119 Woods Edge Blvd. after receiving a direct call for a carbon monoxide detector activation. Firefighters arrived at 8:45 and found nothing after monitoring the property. GFD went back into service at 8:59 a.m.

• At 5:02 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 209 W. Liberty St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:03 and found that a fire pull station had been activated. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:20 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed nine medical assists and had two disregards.
