Monday, November 22, 2021

The DePauw University School of Music will present its 2021 Holiday Gala on Saturday, Dec. 4 with a shorter, family show Sunday, Dec. 5.

This year’s theme is “Holiday Gala at the Movies,” and the show will include selections various holiday-themed movies. After having to forgo last year’s performance because of COVID-19, this year’s gala marks a special time for all.

All of the DePauw curricular ensembles, including the Jazz Ensemble, Choir, Band, Symphonic Band and Orchestra, will be performing. But the fun doesn’t stop there, the student-led Mariachi band, Los Tigres, will also be performing as well as the Trombone Choir, Saxophone Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.

Alongside the student groups, voice professor Dr. André Campelo will be singing and theater professors Tim and Caroline Good will be presenting a skit.

To supplement the musical extravaganza, a student-run menorah lighting ceremony is scheduled. The all-hands-on-deck performance is a perfect way to welcome in the holiday season, as we all are able to gather again for our holiday traditions.

Previous Holiday Gala themes have included “Candyland” and “Winter Wonderland.” This year will focus on holiday movies across the ages. Whether using music from movies or music inspired by the films, this performance will provide family-friendly fun for all ages. Get into the holiday spirit and celebrate with your favorite seasonal movies with selections from “Elf,” “Home Alone,” “The Polar Express” and more.

Before the performance starts, the holiday cheer will already be in full swing with photo opportunities, preshow animations and movie-themed decorations that fill the Great Hall of the Green Center for the Performing Arts.

The Saturday performance is set for 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium of the Green Center for the Performing Arts. Make sure to grab tickets for the whole family for the 3 p.m. Sunday concert, also in Kresge, and featuring a special, holiday visitor.

Tickets are available at depauw.edu/music. General admission is $10 with students and seniors admitted free of charge.
