With more than double the number of Christmas lights than involved in last year’s initial Robe-Ann Park illumination planned, holiday lights at the Greencastle park are scheduled to be lit Saturday at dusk. Just one of several holiday topics ahead for the Parks Department.

The Greencastle Park Board heard Assistant Park Director Chrysta Snellenberger excitedly report that lighting, spearheaded by the Greencastle Civic League, will illuminate some 72,000 lights at the park. That’s quite a jump from the 31,000 lights last year.

Additionally, 75 inflatables will be included in the holiday set-up.

“So it should be quite a display,” Snellenberger told the board at its monthly meeting.

The lighting will apparently follow the inaugural Christmas parade, which is slated to start down Washington Street at 3:15 p.m. and end at the park with Cookies with Santa.

Meanwhile, the second annual Winter Market is set for Saturday, Dec. 18 at shelterhouse No. 2 (near the skatepark) in Robe-Ann Park.

It has been moved to that shelter, Park Maintenance Director David Bault noted, because the site is handicap accessible and allows for more parking than the initial effort at the bandshell last year. Moving it also allows for the bandshell to be utilized for music throughout the 5-8 p.m. Winter Market program.

In another holiday-related effort, Breakfast with The Grinch is set for 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at 3 Fat Labs Wedding Barn on Saddle Club Road in Madison Township, 2009 S. CR 400 West. Cost is $18 per person for a breakfast buffet and interaction with The Grinch.

For more information or to register, persons should visit greencastleparks.com.

Shooting for 50 or more guests, registrations had hit the 30 mark as of Wednesday night, Snellenberger said.
