Always a hard worker, Gary worked at Stran Steel before he became a detention officer at the Vigo County Juvenile Center. Gary retired from the Terre Haute Wastewater Treatment Plant.

He loved cars and enjoyed drag racing his Corvette when he was younger. Gary raised exotic fish and Dobermanns. A simple man with simple pleasures, he liked to go fishing, read the newspaper and keep up to date on current political events. A diehard Democrat, he enjoyed a good debate. Gary enjoyed visiting Florida and always planned on living where the sun could tan his skin.

Most of all, Gary loved his grandchildren. He was a devoted Papaw and was always up for a game of poker or euchre. He looked forward to making sure they were well-fed on their regular trips to China Buffet. Gary was an avid IU fan, especially IU basketball. He was loved, respected and adored by many people. Beloved by many and forgotten by none. He lives on in spirit and in love. The Universe’s #1 Papaw. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A celebration of Gary’s life will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Gary will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
