County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 8:02 a.m. Rigoberto R. Martinez, 25, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 5:28 a.m. Jeremiah W. Bills, 42, Fillmore, was taken into custody for invasion of privacy.

Tuesday

• At 2:15 p.m. Jason M. Frye, 40, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a writ.

• At 1:05 p.m. Jessica L. Portillo, 38, Indianapolis, was booked in for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 12:58 p.m. Brandon S. Workman, 22, Greenastle, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

City Police

One recent citation was issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 11:41 p.m. Dec. 23, Justin Brittain, 45, Pimento, was ticketed by Sgt. Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on Jackson Street, Brittain was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 12:47 p.m. on Tuesday, Donald G. Cross, 47, Indianapolis, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2007 GMC Envoy pulling a trailer.

Cross told Cpl. Scott Ducker he was coming around a curve when a semi traveling in the opposite direction began coming across the center line. He swerved to avoid the collision and a wheel of the trailer went down the embankment and he could not correct.

The vehicle continued down the embankment and jumped over a creek. The trailer then jackknifed and hit a utility pole.

Ducker estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8:38 a.m. on Tuesday, Jeanetta 41, Clay City, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 800 West in a 2014 Dodge Journey when she hit a deer.

Cpl. Scott Ducker estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to one incident:

• At 11:38 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to the area of Spring and Walnut streets for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:45 and found a detector thrown into a construction dumpster that had a low battery. GFD went back into service at 11:48 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed five medical assists.
