Area 30 Board approves bus use for Ivy Tech ASAP

Tuesday, January 11, 2022

As part of a short agenda, the Area 30 Board approved to occasionally lend a white bus, as well as a driver, to Ivy Tech Greencastle at its regular meeting Tuesday morning.

The approval was predicated on a request to use the bus to take Ivy Tech’s Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) students on visits to institutions such as Ball State University and the University of Southern Indiana. The bus is to be used on a few Fridays each semester.

It was noted that the request was made by Ivy Tech Site Director Carol Whitesel on behalf of ASAP Coordinator Madison Pershing.

Area 30 Asst. Director Chad Nunley said Ivy Tech would arrange to reimburse the career center for use of the bus. As part of the approval, the board asked that any potential insurance issues be addressed.

• The board approved Area 30’s calendar for the 2022-23 school year. However, it addressed issues in terms of its sending schools aligning with fall break in terms of the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival, as well as spring break.

Superintendent Jeff Gibboney stated that Greencastle Schools would not be aligned, while counterpart Wesley Hammond said Eminence’s calendar was not finalized. Nonetheless, the board agreed that the third full week in March 2024 was best for spring break moving forward.

Treasurer Cindy Burnham joined Nunley, Gibboney, Hammond and the rest of the board for the meeting. Meanwhile, Area 30 Executive Director Lora Busch was absent because of a recent injury.

The next regular meeting of the Area 30 Board is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. in the Old National Trail boardroom.
