The 2021-2022 second semester grant cycle for the Mary Allison Children’s Trust has begun with the distribution of project applications to all the Putnam County schools.

The Board of Directors of allocated $10,000.00 for distribution for this grant cycle.

This may be one grant or a combination of grants depending on the applications received by Feb. 18.

Last spring, this meant funding totalling $509.35 for two different projects at Greencastle Middle School

The first program is called My Best Friend’s Locker. The funds have provided feminine products for all of the middle school girls. Each bathroom has a box that has various products that girls can use.

In addition, the funds have provided us with wall stickers so that we could also put positive quotes up on the walls.

The second program is the Tiger Ticket store. Students can earn tickets in a couple of ways. They may receive them for positive behavior or they may receive them as an academic incentive. Then on Fridays, the store is open during lunch for students to use their tickets to purchase items.

The funds went into providing additional items that students could purchase from the store.

“The Mary Allison Children’s Trust has provided the students at Greencastle Middle School with several items to help them throughout their day,” GMS counselor Jessica Briones said. “Whether it be a sensory calm down room where students may use items that will address each of their senses and allow them to calm down more quickly and return to class or even access to free feminine products in all of the girls restrooms. Each of these items, although they seem small, will make the day much easier for so many of our GMS students.

“In addition, the Mary Allison Children’s Trust has provided funds to purchase items for our Tiger Ticket store. This store’s sole purpose is to motivate students to do well not only academically, but behaviorally as well. We are grateful to the Mary Allison Children’s Trust for allowing us to better serve our students.”
