Golden arrows use big innings to drop Tiger Cubs

The Sullivan Golden Arrows softball team scored 11 runs in two innings, the fourth and the sixth, to pull away from the Greencastle Tiger Cubs 12-1 in Western Indiana Conference action Wednesday evening.

Avery Wiltermood had a huge night for the Arrows. She led off the game with a single and advanced to third on an error. Gracie Shorter drove her home with an RBI groundout. Starter Haley Iseman for Greencastle kept Sullivan at bay until the fourth.

The Arrows got the first two aboard in the fourth. Klaire Williams drove in two runs and Wiltermood got her third hit of the game with a two-run home run to left adn Sullivan extended their lead to 5-0.

After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, Greencastle threatened again in the fifth. Haley Iseman reached on an error and advanced to third on another Arrow miscue. She would then score on a wild pitch to get the Tiger Cubs on the board. With two on base, they could not get the big hit to get them back in the game.

Sullivan put the game away in the sixth. The Arrows sent 12 hitters to the plate, scoring seven runs on five hits. Wiltermood picked her fourth hit and fourth RBI of the game. The Cubs went silently in their half of the sixth as Sullivan picked up its 20th win of the season. Kendall Edmonson got the win, going six innings giving up only two hits and walking one while striking out seven. Iseman got the loss for Greencastle.
