Eagles see sectional standards in loss to Wolves; Cougars earn three-straight wins in 24 hours

Monday, May 16, 2022

Karlynn McKinney drove in four runs and pitcher Emma Norman allowed only three hits as the visiting Parke Heritage Wolves handed the South Putnam Eagles a 7-1 loss on senior night.

Pitching was the name of the game early on. The Wolves scratched out a run in the first. Abbi Henderson led off with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sac fly.

In the third the Wolves got two more without the benefit of a hit. A walk and an Eagle error set the table. They would score on a pair of sacrifices to make it 3-0.

Parke Heritage started to pull away in the fourth. Three walks and two hits later, including a two-RBI single from McKinney, boosted them to a 6-0 advantage.

The teams each got a run in the sixth. The Eagles got on the board when Sabrina Leonard was hit by a pitch. Jaicee Jackson singled to right. Peyton Freeman drove home Leonard on a fielder’s choice.

Starter Emma Norman had a great night on the mound, allowing just three hits over seven innings. She had seven strikeouts to go with three walks for the Wolves. Leonard was pretty good also, only allowing five hits over seven, but six walks hurt the cause.
