Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

•At 10:12 p.m. on Wednesday, Freddie R. McDonald, 50, Rockville, was westbound on County Road 375 North on a 2005 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic when a deer ran into his path and he could not avoid a collision.

Although there was heavy front-end damage, McDonald was able to maintain control and did not lay down the bike.

McDonald told Deputy Robert Soilleux he was not injured and refused medical aid.

The motorcycle had to be towed from the scene. Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:12 p.m. on Monday, Dean Mattingly, 73, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 1000 East when his 2005 Ford F-150 left the east side of the road and crashed into trees.

Mattingly told Deputy Todd Hopkins he was unsure what happened, but he must have dozed off, and the next thing he knew, he was in the trees on the side of the road.

The truck traveled several feet through brush before hitting the trees. Mattingly was unable to get out of the truck on his own due to the amount of damage to the vehicle and brush blocking the door. He was complaining of his leg hurting and had several cuts on his forearms.

He was then extricated from the vehicle and examined by medical personnel. Putnam County EMS transported him to Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

He also had two dogs in the vehicle, which were released to a friend.

The truck was towed. Hopkins estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.
