Gloria “June” (Alexander) Sharp, 96, formerly of Greencastle, passed away at her home in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022.

June was born on June 20, 1926, to Walter Earl and Edith Alma (Carrington) Alexander.

June attended Greencastle High School. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

She married Virgil “Sharpie” Sharp on Jan. 11, 1947. They resided in Bainbridge for 55 years. She assisted Sharpie in his State Farm Insurance agency in Bainbridge, and at their Greencastle office for 22 years until their retirement in 1990.

Hobbies such as ceramics, needlework, and crafts brought June much pleasure. These treasures became such important keepsakes for her family. And you would rarely see a day go by that she was not working a crossword puzzle.

June enjoyed spending summers in Indiana and winters in Gulf Shores, Ala., with Sharpie and their many friends.

During the time she lived in Knoxville, she enjoyed the beauty of her “park-like” back yard, watching the birds, bunnies, and squirrels. She was an avid golf fan, keeping up with all the PGA tournaments as well as following the Indianapolis Colts.

June will be dearly missed by her family who survives, her sons and their wives, Rodney (Chris), Georgetown, Ky.; Randy (Anita) Knoxville, Tenn.; Jim (Gladys) Alexander, Martinsburg, WVa.; daughter-in-law, Laura Sharp, Greencastle; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Rob) Baker, Seymour; Tamie (Ryan) Morrison, Columbia City; Brad (Tracy) Sharp, Knoxville, Tenn.; Dana (Alex) Reyland, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; Stacy Sharp, Georgetown, Ky.; Amy Sharp (fiancé Jonathan Tenoever), Reading, Ohio; step grandchildren Kristen Vermillion, Ryan Queen and Matt Queen; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Alyson, Chloe, Gabriel, Samuel, and Benjamin; several nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, son Rick, sisters Virginia and Norma.

The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.

A private family graveside service will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.
