Carlos S. Hawkins, 81, passed away Sept. 5, 2022 at his residence after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia, surrounded by his wife Ann, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carlos was born in Louisville, Ky., to the late Henry and Lillie (Lewis) Hawkins on Feb. 23, 1941.

Carlos enjoyed all things outdoors, particularly sitting in the rocker on the front porch with his wife Ann and grandson and best friend Caleb.

He was an avid storyteller, he loved to share stories of his life and trips he had taken. His grandchildren loved listening to him tell stories. He spent the last several months traveling back and forth from IU Hospital and Riley, preparing for the birth of his grandson, Grant.

Carlos had great love for all of his grandchildren, and he never hesitated to tell them. He was not a man who held back and didn’t say I love you.

Carlos is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillie Hawkins, as well two brothers and one sister.

Carlos is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Ann Hawkins; seven children, Debra, Renee, Todd, Troy, Crystal, Scott and Elizabeth; a very special daughter-in-law, Crystal; 18 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren; and three sons-inlaw.

A private family graveside will be held Friday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at Croy’s Creek Cemetery officiated by Pastor Mark Strahm.

The family would like to extended a special thank you to Intrepid Hospice, especially Misty, for the love and care extended to them during this difficult time.
