Larry Ray Boswell

Sunday, September 18, 2022

Larry Ray Boswell arrived at his heavenly home to meet his Savior on Friday, Sept.16, 2022, at age 81.

Larry was born to John and Thelma Ruth (Williams) Boswell on Dec. 14, 1940, in Greencastle.

He attended Greencastle High School.

Larry went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and his MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.

He initially met Sandy (Rains), the love of his life, at Mt. Hebron Community Church in Cloverdale in 1962. They met again at the Putnam County Fair that year. They dated for about five months, quickly fell in love and were married on Jan. 19, 1963.

Larry accepted a call to the ministry and in 1968 they moved to and pastored a church in West Middleton, west of Kokomo. Afterward they pastored Little Ridge Friends, Liberty Friends and Amo Friends churches.

He pastored for over 40 years. Meanwhile, he worked at Delco Electronics in Kokomo.

He always put his family first and loved spending time with them. He was a very sensitive, caring person. He also had a fantastic sense of humor and lived to make people laugh.

He enjoyed painting and European travel. He also loved to host exchange students. He loved growing things, especially daylilies, herbs for teas and apple trees. He loved anything apple — apples, apple cider, apple pie and apple fritters. He loved giving. He often bought things on sale just so he could give them away. He often combined those three loves and bought apple trees to give away and plant for other people. Sandy called him her Johnny Appleseed. He loved old-time radio broadcasts, postal history, antiques and anything else historical. He enjoyed reading about World War II. He had a weakness for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and couldn’t pass them up. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served Him in any way he could.

He leaves behind his loving family: his wife, Sandra “Sandy” (Rains) Boswell; children Cynthia “Cyndi” (Dave) Marsh and Brian (Jen) Boswell; son-in-law, Dave Watkins; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and siblings.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Watkins; his brother, Ernest Lee Boswell; his parents, John Ernest Boswell and Thelma “Ruth” (Williams) Devitt; his stepmother, Mary (Kersey) Koch; and stepmother Rozella (Sweet) Boswell.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Danville Friends Church, 45 N. CR 200 East, Danville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and a memorial service will be at 4 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s name to Danville Friends Church. They can be made at https://tithe.ly/give_new/www/#/tithely/give-one-time/1302621.
