Monday, September 19, 2022

Sonja “Sunny” Darlene Emmert, 82, of Terre Haute, passed peacefully away Friday, Sept. 16, 2022 at her home. She was born in Indianapolis on Jan. 8, 1940, to Myron Morris and Dorothy Eileen Craig.

Sunny is survived by her siblings, Joy Thompson, Ray Craig (and his wife Mary) and Donna Whittle (and her husband Jim); her children, Rhonda Emmert and Guy Tincher (and his wife Tessa); and three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sunny was a 1957 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School.

She and her children relocated to the Raccoon Lake area in 1973. Sunny spent the next 48 years of her life there, working, playing and worshiping in Greencastle.

After she retired from a long career at Lobdell-Emery, Sunny worked many more years in at Crown Equipment Co.

Sunny lived her final years with her daughter in Terre Haute.

She had a soft heart for all animals and would feed all the stray dogs and cats that wandered her way.

She deeply loved all her family and loved her children with all her heart – almost as much as she loved bowling. Bowling was her absolute favorite past-time; when physically capable of doing so, she always chose to go bowling. She also enjoyed swimming at the beach with her family, roller skating, riding bikes, golfing, dancing and euchre night with family and friends.

Although Sunny’s memory left her, her smile, joy from family, and sense of humor stayed with her until the end. She always brought so much fun and love to her surroundings. Hence, her nickname ... Sunny.

Sunny was preceded in death by her father, mother and great-grandchild.

Per her wishes, cremation has been chosen. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
